Chapter Summary
James was the pastor of the church at Jerusalem. He loved his congregation but was tired of believers
talking “spiritual” but not living spiritual. The epistle of James is about living a practical Christian lifestyle.
James exhorts his congregation by telling them the world needs to see their walk of faith in action. One
way to do this is through the demonstration of joy and the resulting patience in their lives as they walk
through trials.
James emphasizes that God desires both our words and actions to reflect the Lord. He also emphasizes
the importance of good works as our greatest witness before the world. The ultimate purpose of good
works is for God to be glorified, as demonstrated in and through our lives.
